FRIDAY LOW LIGHT FUN HANDGUN SHOOT

Objective
  • To provide a handgun shooting venue for intermediate and expert level shooters.
  • To create a safe, supervised environment.
  • To help shooters increase their gun-handling and tactical flashlight handling skills in "low light" and "night time" environments.
  • To create a venue for the use of revolvers without penalty for their lack of load capacity (stages are 6-shot neutral)
  • Procedures
  • Stages are shot under the supervision of a Range Safety Officer.
  • A timer is used to record the overall time used by the shooter to address the target stage. The shooter has the option of requesting that a timer not be used.
  • Penalty points in the form of additional time are added for targets missed or for procedural errors. This "score keeping" is only intended to help the shooter measure his/her performance and progress.
  • Participants have the choice of including or excluding their scores from the tabulation prepared after the conclusion of the match. Scores are distributed by e-mail to those choosing to participate.
  • Stages shot during the "lights out" phase of the match must use illumination devices (tactical or regular flashlights).
  • When Twice a Month on the Friday nights of weekends when there is not a Rimfire Match/IDPA Match or a Fun Pistol/Revolver Shoot. Exact dates will be posted on this website - see the "Activity Calendar" link. Stage and target setups start at 5:30 p.m. and the shooters' meeting begins at 6:20 p.m. Shooting commences at 6:30 p.m. NOTE: As the Summer progresses and the sun sets later in the day, the shooting may begin later (7:00 p.m.) to insure "low light" conditions. Feel free to come early and help set up.
Who Members of the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club who have participated in a minimum of (2) Centerfire Handgun Matches (Fun Pistol/Revolver Match and/or the IDPA Match) are invited. This "low light" shoot is intended for experienced (intermediate/expert level) handgunners with previous "centerfire" match experience. NOTE: This Match is restricted to a maximum of 14 shooters (2 squads of 7 each). The Match Director will assign reservations based on who calls or emails their desire to participate on a "first come - first served" basis. Participants of previous "Friday Low Light Fun Handgun Shoot" shoots may be given priority status. Where: At the shooting facility in Alpine located on Sequan Truck Trail owned and operated by the Lemon Grove Rod & Gun Club (see map directions on web site). This Match occurs in the Handgun "Pit".
    What to bring
  • Any semi-auto pistol or revolver capable of holding 6 rounds or more and appropriate holster. Holsters must be attached at the belt level unless it is a cowboy rig. No shoulder holsters or cross-draw rigs are to be used.
  • A minimum of 4 magazines or speed loaders, with holsters for same.
  • A tactical flashlight, regular flashlight or similar illumination device for use during the"lights out" stages. No "night vision" (goggles or scopes, etc.) type equipment will be allowed.
  • 200 rounds of ammunition.
  • Eye protection (shooting glasses) and hearing protection.
  • A white or light colored jacket, shirt or vest.
  • A desire to have some fun.
  • Fee Members shoot for free. All participants are expected to help in the conduct of the event by helping with setup, tear-down, and score keeping.
Ammunition It is requested that no magnum ammunition be used as it is hard on our targets and also hard on the shooter. Lead bullets are recommended over jacketed bullets as they reduce the likelihood of bullet fragments returning to the shooter area when metal targets are being used. There is no minimum caliber or power factor required unless you are participating in the revolver match. In this event the minimum power factor is 120 as measured by the ICORE test procedures.
    Range Rules
  • A number of "common sense" range rules are used for the safety of all participants.
  • Handguns are handled, i.e., placed in or out of your holster, only at the "safety area" designated by the Match Director.
  • The range is a COLD RANGE, which means that all firearms are in the unloaded condition (an open magazine well in the case of semi-auto pistols) and in the holster at all times other than when shooting under the supervision of a Range Safety Officer.
  • When engaging the targets, shooters must observe the "180 Rule" which means that loaded firearms must be pointed down range at all times.
  • When moving between shooting positions, the shooter must have his/her finger outside of the trigger guard.
  • Other Information
  • At the initial address of the targets, less experienced shooters are encouraged to use the "low ready" position. Intermediate and Expert shooters will normally draw from their holster. Shooters are encouraged to state their preference to the Range Safety Officer.
  • In moving between shooting positions, each shooter is encouraged to move only at a pace comfortable and safe for the shooter.
  • Targets generally consist of metal targets and NRA D-1 "tombstone" cardboard targets.
  • The scoring protocol and rulebook used is that published for the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE). The Range Safety Officer can answer any questions participants have about the rules.
  • Before loading your magazines, check with the Match Director regarding the maximum number of rounds that can be loaded. In general, this number will be less than the capacity of your magazines.
